Xbox simply hasn’t delivered AAA exclusives that were feature complete at launch. Comparing Xbox to PS and Nintendo, they have been lacking on the games side of things all generation in comparison to their direct competition. What really concerns me is that if Microsoft cannot get split-screen to work on their own consoles, then what chance Larian? And if Larian, understandably, does not wish to compromise on having split-screen in Baldur's Gate 3, does this mean that there is a possibility that the game will never come to the Xbox? It could be that the biggest game thus far in 2023, one that may well review better than Starfield, may completely skip the Xbox because of the S, thus gifting the game as an exclusive to the PlayStation 5. It's clearly not Larian, 343 Industries or Turn 10, it's obviously the Series S (which has proven to be somewhat of a mistake, or if not the console, then the parity clause). The thing is, if Microsoft cannot get the feature to work in their own first-party games, all those people pointing the finger at Larian and calling them lazy or inept for being unable to implement split-screen on the S might need to eat their words. The fact that Microsoft have completely cancelled it in Halo Infinite, has me thinking that it is a feature that is unlikely to ever appear in Forza Motorsport, despite what they might say. My immediate assumption is that it is yet again the S that is the problem. We don't have long to wait until we can try it for ourselves, with the Xbox console exclusive officially releasing on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming (via Xbox Game Pass) on October 10th, 2023. It's definitely a shame to be missing out on split-screen, but we have to say that everything else is looking fantastic to us so far!
